Alcuin Capital Partners

Art Direction, UI/UX Design

Alcuin Capital Partners, a London-based investment firm with a diverse portfolio, required a full end-to-end redesign of their digital presence, spanning research, design, and post-launch testing.

My role was to lead this process while simultaneously developing a refreshed brand identity, as the existing assets were limited to just a logo.

Research: Building a Professional Visual Identity

To align with Alcuin’s industry and reputation, the research phase focused on creating a brand that balanced modern design with professionalism.

Drawing inspiration from late 1990s and early 2000s HSBC advertising, I devised a triangular motif that became central to the brand. This pattern, reminiscent of stability and precision, was applied consistently across modules to reinforce Alcuin’s identity.

During this phase, competitor analysis revealed a need for clarity and restraint in design, as investment firms often favour simplicity to establish trust.

This informed decisions in colour palettes, typography, and the minimalistic layout of the website, ensuring a cohesive and polished user experience.

Sitemap and Wireframes

The sitemap was constructed using Octopus.do to outline Alcuin’s core pages and streamline the user journey. With the professional tone already established, the wireframing phase focused on functionality and simplicity. Mid to high-fidelity wireframes were developed early on to save time and ensure rapid progression to the UI phase. These wireframes were tested with stakeholders to confirm alignment with Alcuin’s goals and target audience expectations.

User Interface Design

The website’s UI was designed with subtle elegance, incorporating the triangular motif throughout to tie digital and print materials together. The design prioritised usability, with clear calls to action and intuitive navigation tailored to Alcuin’s clientele.

Typography choices leaned towards clean, modern typefaces to project professionalism and reliability, while the restrained colour palette reinforced Alcuin’s identity as a sophisticated and trustworthy partner.

Post-Launch Impact

Since the redesign, Alcuin has effectively leveraged their new brand identity across both digital and print platforms. The triangular motif, now a recognisable element of the brand, has become a central visual component used consistently in all communications.

This project was a true exercise in design restraint, balancing creativity with the demands of an industry where professionalism is paramount. It exemplified how research-led design can shape a cohesive identity that resonates across multiple platforms
